Yeboah, Hlongwane each score a goal as Minnesota United beats Sporting KC 2-0

Minnesota United's offense comes alive against Sporting Kansas City

Minnesota United FC played host to Sporting Kansas City Saturday night in a Western Conference matchup at Allianz Field.

Emanuel Reynoso, who scored the game-winning goal against Vancouver last week, missed the match with a right quad strain.

With Reynoso out, Bongokuhle Hlongwane started at forward alongside Luis Amarilla.

Hlongwane scores his first goal for Minnesota United

Hlongwane opened the scoring for Minnesota United in the 20th minute when he received a pass from Franco Fragapane and fired a shot from 20 yards out that beat Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper John Pulskamp.

It was Hlongwane's first goal for Minnesota United since joining the club on loan from South African Premier Division club Maritzburg United in April.

Robin Lod had a chance to double Minnesota United's lead in the 29th minute, but his shot from outside the box went just wide of the goal.

Abu Danladi replaced Amarilla in the 60th minute, and he made an immediate impact when he set up Ethan Finlay for a chance in the 62nd minute.

Finlay's shot was saved by Pulskamp, but the rebound came right to Joseph Rosales, who headed the ball just wide of the goal.

Just two minutes later, Danladi was involved in another scoring chance when he crossed a ball into the box that found the head of substitute Adrien Hunou.

Hunou's header was saved by Pulskamp, but the rebound came right to Yeboah, who headed the ball into the back of the net to give the Loons a 2-0 lead.

Minnesota United holds on for the win

Sporting Kansas City had a chance to get back into the game in the 75th minute when Khiry Shelton got behind Minnesota United's defense, but his shot was saved by Dayne St. Clair.

St. Clair made another big save in the 80th minute when he stopped a shot from Johnny Russell.

Minnesota United held on for the 2-0 win, their second in a row at home.
