Report Notre Dames Riley Leonard Has Shoulder Injury Expected To Play Vs Purdue

Report: Notre Dame's Riley Leonard Has Shoulder Injury, Expected to Play vs. Purdue

Leonard Suffered a Shoulder Injury in the Syracuse Game

Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard suffered an undisclosed shoulder injury during the third quarter of last Saturday’s game against Syracuse. Leonard was injured on a sack by Syracuse defensive lineman Jatius Geer. He immediately left the game and did not return.

Head Coach Marcus Freeman provided an update on Leonard’s status Monday, saying that he is expected to play this Saturday when Notre Dame hosts Purdue.

Leonard's Injury is Not Expected to Long-Term

According to Freeman, Leonard’s injury is not expected to be long-term. He is expected to practice this week and is expected to start against Purdue on Saturday.

Leonard’s toughness and determination could be key factor in whether or not he plays on Saturday.

Leonard is a Key Player for Notre Dame

Leonard has been a key player for Notre Dame this season, leading the team to a 3-2 record. He has thrown for 825 yards and seven touchdowns with just two interceptions. He has also rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

If Leonard is unable to play against Purdue, Notre Dame would likely start Tyler Buchner at quarterback. Buchner started the first two games of the season before suffering an injury of his own.

Backup quarterback Steve Angeli is also available if needed.
