Dog Survives Boomslang Bite in Germany

Snake's venom can kill a human in less than an hour

3-year-old Airedoodle survived an encounter with the venomous boomslang snake while on a walk in Germany

A three-year-old Airedoodle survived an encounter with a boomslang, one of the most venomous snakes in Africa, while on a walk in Germany.

The dog, named Kira, was bitten on the nose by the snake while on a walk in the woods near her home in Schleswig-Holstein.

Her owner, Tanja Brandt, said Kira yelped and then started to swell up. Brandt rushed Kira to a nearby animal hospital, where she was given antivenom.

Kira is now recovering at home and is expected to make a full recovery.

The boomslang is a venomous snake found in sub-Saharan Africa. Its venom is primarily hemotoxic, meaning that it destroys red blood cells and can cause internal bleeding.

The venom of the boomslang is considered to be more potent than that of the black mamba, and can kill a human in less than an hour.

It is unclear how the boomslang came to be in Germany. One possibility is that it was brought to the country as a pet and then escaped.

The incident has raised concerns about the potential for other venomous snakes to be brought to Germany, either intentionally or unintentionally.

Experts say that it is important to be aware of the risks of venomous snakes, and to take precautions to avoid being bitten.

Here are some tips to help you avoid being bitten by a venomous snake:

  • Be aware of the types of venomous snakes that are found in your area.
  • Stay away from areas where snakes are known to live.
  • Wear long pants and boots when hiking in areas where snakes are common.
  • Be careful when walking through tall grass or brush.
  • Never try to handle a snake, even if it appears to be dead.
  • If you are bitten by a snake, seek medical attention immediately.
