Background

Trent Jordan Watt, born October 11, 1994, is an American football linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League (NFL). Watt was selected by the Steelers with the 30th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.

NFL Career

In his rookie season, Watt started 15 games for the Steelers and recorded 7 sacks, 33 tackles, and a forced fumble. He was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team. In 2018, Watt started all 16 games and led the NFL with 13 sacks. He also recorded 43 tackles, 2 interceptions, and a forced fumble. Watt was named to his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro team.

In 2019, Watt started all 16 games and recorded 14.5 sacks, 56 tackles, and 4 forced fumbles. He was named to his second Pro Bowl and All-Pro team. Watt also won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award.

In 2020, Watt started all 16 games and recorded 15 sacks, 53 tackles, and 4 forced fumbles. He was named to his third Pro Bowl and All-Pro team. Watt also won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award for the second time.

In 2021, Watt started 15 games and recorded 22.5 sacks, 64 tackles, and 5 forced fumbles. He was named to his fourth Pro Bowl and All-Pro team. Watt also won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award for the third time.

Combine and Draft

Watt was one of the top prospects in the 2017 NFL Draft. He ran a 4.69-second 40-yard dash, had a 38.5-inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot broad jump. He also had a 225-pound bench press.

Watt was selected with the 30th overall pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers. He was the third linebacker selected in the draft, after Reuben Foster and Haason Reddick. Watt was considered to be a good value pick at the time, and he has quickly become one of the best players in the NFL.
