Liverpool denied late penalty in thrilling 1-1 draw with Manchester City

Klopp left frustrated as Reds' title hopes suffer setback

Controversial end to pulsating Anfield encounter

Liverpool were denied a late penalty in a thrilling 1-1 draw with Manchester City at Anfield on Monday night.

The Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was left frustrated that his side were denied a spot-kick in the final minute of the game after Mohamed Salah was brought down by City goalkeeper Ederson.

Referee Stuart Attwell waved play on, and the decision was not overturned by VAR.

The result leaves Liverpool six points behind City in the Premier League title race with just seven games remaining.

The game was a pulsating and chaotic affair, with both sides creating chances to win it.

City took the lead in the 50th minute through a penalty from Julian Alvarez, after James Milner was adjudged to have fouled Erling Haaland.

Liverpool equalised in the 76th minute through a stunning strike from Luis Diaz.

The Reds pushed for a winner in the closing stages, and they thought they had won it when Salah was brought down by Ederson in the penalty area.

However, Attwell waved play on, and the decision was not overturned by VAR.

Klopp was visibly frustrated by the decision, and he made his feelings known to Attwell after the game.

"It was a clear penalty," Klopp said. "I don't know why the referee didn't give it. I've seen it back, and it's a penalty. It's a big decision, and it's cost us two points.

"I'm not going to talk about the referee anymore. I'm going to focus on my team. We have to keep fighting. We're still in the title race, and we're going to give it everything we've got.
